NACOGDOCHES – Four wins and 27 total personal records for McNeese's Cowboys and Cowgirls highlighted the two-day event at the SFA Carl Kight Invitational.
Three of the wins came from Cowgirl thrower
Jaslyn Russell who won the shot put, discus and hammer throw. She threw 50-10.75 to win the shot put and set a new personal record in the process. The mark is ranked 36
th in the NCAA and was the third-best throw in school history.
Russell set a new PR in the hammer throw with a mark of 177-3 while her first-place throw of 167-4 in the discus is a new personal record and the second-longest mark in school history. It's also ranked No. 51 in the NCAA.
Javelin thrower
Sydnie Cooley earned the other win for the Cowgirls after she threw 137-9 while winning for the first time in her career.
Fifteen of the PRs came from Cowgirls while 12 were for the Cowboys.
One of the more impressive results came in the men's 1500m when all six of the Cowboy runners recorded personal records. Greg Martin paced the group with a second-place finish and a time of 3:43.43 and moving up from fifth to second on the school's all-time bests in the event.
Jeny Barcenas recorded two PRs in the 800m and 5000m, both with third place finishes. Her time of 2:12.10 in the 800m is ranked third all-time in school history and is .44 seconds faster than her previous best. Barcenas ran a 17:00.69 for the second-fastest time in the 5000m.
