LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis extended its winning streak to 14 matches following its 4-3 non-conference win over UL-Lafayette Tuesday to improve to 19-1 overall.
The win snapped a four-match losing streak against the Cajuns and its the first win over UL-Lafayette since 2019 when the Cowgirls defeated the Cajuns 4-3 in Lafayette.
The 19 wins ties the second most wins in program history. Last season, McNeese also won 19 matches in head coach
Sonia Carlson's first year as the Cowgirls head coach.
McNeese jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles. Each team one one doubles apiece before
Salome Fluri and
Erica Hagi defeated Safia Zenbi and Martina Della Gora 6-2 on court 2 to clinch the doubles points.
UL-Lafayette (12-5) won two of the first three singles matches that were completed to even the match at two points apiece.
Elena Morales' win on court three put the Cowgirls up 3-2 but the Cajuns picked up the win on court two to tie the match at three points all.
The match clinching point came on court 5 where
Erica Hagi came from behind after dropping the first set 4-6 to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-1 over Nina Krecklenberg for the Cowgirl win.
McNeese will close out the regular season with its final two Southland Conference home matches beginning with an 11 a.m. match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, April 11 then will conclude the regular season against UTRGV next Monday, April 13. This match is also scheduled for 11 a.m.
