NACOGDOCHES, Texas - McNeese track and field will begin competition at the 2026 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships on Thursday at Stephen F. Austin.
 
The three-day event will start at 9:30 a.m. with the combined events. Individual field events will start at 10 with the women's hammer throw while running events will begin at 5 p.m. with the women's 1500m.
 
On Friday, combined events will begin at 9:30, field events at 12:30 with the men's long jump, then at 5 p.m., the women's 100m hurdles will start the running events schedule. The final day on Saturday will begin at 11 with the women's discus and men's pole vault with running events under way at 5 p.m. with the 4x100m relay.

The Cowgirls will enter the meet with six marks ranked in the top five in the Southland Conference in their respective events. Thrower Jaslyn Russell, the league's indoor most outstanding field athele, is ranked No. 2 in the shot put, fourth in the discus and fifth in the hammer. Jeny Barcenas is No. 1 in the 3000-meter steeplechase while Brianna Underwood is fifth in the javelin. The Cowgirls' 4x400-meter relay team made up of Jashyra Thomas, Janaya Dotson, Keelei Dorsey and Alexandria Stewart, is ranked No. 4 in the league.
 
On the men's side, four Cowboys are ranked in the top five heading into the championships. Gregory Martin is No. 2 in the 1500-meters, Amire Ledet is third in the triple jump, Tanny Beard is No. 3 in the javelin, and Lawson Fritsch is fifth in the pole vault.
 
Last year, the Cowboys placed seventh in the meet with 64 points while the Cowgirls finished ninth with 26 points.
