LAKE CHARLES - McNeese All-American pitcher Eric Nachtsheim got the call from the MLB on Sunday when he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round as the 179th overall pick.
 
The Southland Conference Relief Pitcher of the Year and first team All-SLC selection, Nachtsheim posted an 8-4 record with a 3.39 ERA this past season for the Cowboys both in starting and relief roles. He struck out a school record 129 batters in 93 innings pitched and walked just 21.
 
A Reno, Nevada native, Natchtsheim becomes the 16th player since 2014 when Justin Hill was named head coach. He's the 62nd player overall in McNeese Baseball history to be selected in the draft.
 
Natchtsheim's sixth round selection is the eighth-highest for a Cowboy in school history and highest since 2011 when Jace Peterson was selected 58th overall in the first round.
 
Nachtsheim took part in the MLB draft combine in Phoenix last month and was listed among the day-two sleeper options given his 6-foot-4, 235-pound frame, ceiling and strikeout potential.
