HAMMOND – McNeese Cowgirl soccer (5-5-0) dropped its Southland Conference opener Thursday night, falling 2-1 to Southeastern (5-3-1).
The Lions struck early, scoring in the second minute of play when Brooke Opferman connected with Alexandra Knight to give Southeastern an early 1-0 lead.
The Cowgirls responded in the 54th minute when
Rhiannon Maynes-Tourond converted a penalty kick, marking her third goal of the season and tying the match at 1-1.
Southeastern would score the game-winner in the 78th minute after Lainey Connell found the back of the net off assists from Sally Bero and Brooke Opferman to give the Lions the 2-1 victory.
