Sophia Tocmo has been named this week's Southland Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The native of Algonquin, Ill. led McNeese's back line of defense again this week by leading the Cowgirls in digs in wins over Grambling and Oral Roberts, extending the Cowgirls winning streak to four matches.
Tocmo led all players with 20 digs against Grambling and picked up a match and career high 33 digs against ORU for an average of 7.57 digs per set last week. She also recorded her first career double double with 33 digs and 13 assists against ORU.
By recording double figure digs in last week's matches, Tocmo has now recorded double figure digs in the last 10 matches.
Tocmo is the first Cowgirl to win the weekly honor this season.
