LAKE CHARLES – McNeese outgoing starting quarterback
Daniel Sams is one of just a few non-FBS football players that have been invited to participate in the Inaugural Tropic Bowl All-Star game in Miami at 1 p.m. (ET) this Sunday.
The game will be played at North Miami Stadium in North Miami Beach, Florida and will showcase top-level talent from the NCAA's Division I FBS level top senior and a few non-FBS players who are looking to go pro.
The Tropic Bowl expects over 20 NFL teams and over 50 total pro scouts to be represented at the game.
Sams, who recently wrapped up a two-year playing career at McNeese after transferring from Kansas State, helped the Cowboys to a perfect 10-0 regular season slate this past season while winning their Southland Conference record 14
th league title.
The New Orleans native etched his name in the McNeese single-season and career record book with the most 100-yard rushing games by a quarterback – four in 2015 and seven in his two-year career.
His 934 yards rushing this past season is the second-most by a quarterback in a season in school history, just 40 yards shy of Stephen Starring's 974 rushing yards compiled in the 1980 season.
A second team all-conference selection, Sams ranked third in the league in rushing yards per game (84.9), second in total offense (236.4), and tied for fifth with 11 touchdowns scored.
He's one of three quarterbacks on the American roster, the other two being Jacob Huesman of Chattanooga and Buffalo's Joe Licata. Only one other player from the Southland Conference will play in the game, defensive back Jordan Batiste of Southeastern Louisiana.
The game will not be televised nor streamed online.
