LAKE CHARLES—Coming off an 86-35 home win over Centenary on Wednesday, the McNeese women's basketball team will look to build on that momentum and extend their two game winning streak Saturday in a 2 p.m. game at Louisiana-Monroe. The game can be heard on the McNeese Radio Network (Cajun Radio 1470/1290 AM).
McNeese (5-2) has won four of its last five games including its last two games against Wiley College and Centenary. Louisiana-Monroe (2-3) holds an all-time 40-26 series record against McNeese. The Cowgirls have won the last three meetings including a 78-63 win in Lake Charles last year in the only meeting of the season between the two teams.
Junior guard
Allison Baggett continues to lead the Cowgirls in scoring with 15.1 ppg. and is tied with sophomore
Amber Donnes with a team best 83.3 free throw percent. Baggett is coming off a season-high 26 points against Centenary and has scored in double figures in four of the last five games.
McNeese is averaging 42.3 rebounds per contest and is led in that category by senior
Talisa Boyd. Boyd is averaging 5.9 rebounds along with a 58.6 field goal shooting percent.
The Warhawks opened the season with a 68-35 win over Williams Carey and have dropped three of its last four games including an 82-54 loss to Southland Conference preseason favorite Stephen F. Austin, Mississippi State (80-46), and most recently a 62-53 loss at Alcorn State on Monday. The other ULM win of the season came in a 78-67 home win against Southern Arkansas on Nov. 30.
ULM is led in scoring (10.0 ppg.) and rebounds (5.6 rpg.) by Alayshia Hunter. The Warkhawks average 59.8 points per game and 34.4 rebounds per game. Hunter is also second on the team with seven blocks and Shanice Brooks has a team-high eight blocks on the season.
