LAKE CHARLES-- The McNeese women's basketball team will look to bounce back from a road loss last Saturday when the Cowgirls return to Burton Coliseum Wednesday to host Abilene Christian. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The game will be the last chance for fans to see the Cowgirls at home until the end of the month.
McNeese (8-6, 2-1 SLC), tied for second in the conference standings, will look to continue its winning ways in Burton Coliseum. The Cowgirls will enter the game with an 8-1 home record, with its only home loss coming against Tulane in the second game of the season.
Head coach Brooks Donald Williams, who has 131 career wins, will look to become McNeese's all-time winning coach. Williams, in her eighth season, needs one more victory to surpass the record held by current McNeese Associate Athletics Director
Bridget Martin.
Junior
Allison Baggett and
Jayln Johnson continue to pace the Cowgirls in scoring. Baggett leads the team and ranks second in the SLC with 17.1 ppg. Baggett is coming off a 26-point game in the Cowgirls' loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Saturday and has scored in double figures in seven of the last nine games.
Johnson will enter the game having made her last 23 free throws and is averaging 11.6 ppg. She ranks third in the league with 3.7 assists per game.
As a team, McNeese leads the conference with an average of 16.2 offensive rebounds per game and are led by senior
Talisa Boyd's 5.9 per contest.
ACU (7-6, 0-3) will be searching for their first conferences win after a 63-39 home loss to Nicholls on Sunday. The Wildcats have the second best scoring average in the league, averaging 71.5 ppg. ACU's entire starting lineup is averaging in double figures for the season with Alexis Mason leading the team with 12.8 ppg. Sydney Shelstead is averaging 12.4 ppg. Shelstead and Lizzy Dimba are the only two players averaging in double figures in conference games only, both averaging a double double. Shelstead is averaging 12.0 ppg. and 10.7 rpg. while Dimba is averaging 11.3 ppg. and 10.3 rpg.
