LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese women's basketball team will look to extend their winning streak against Southern-New Orleans (0-4) in a rare home contest at 2 p.m. Sunday at Burton Coliseum.
McNeese (3-1) has won its last three games and are coming off a 61-53 home opening win against Rice on Wednesday. The Cowgirls got off to a cold shooting day in the win but started to heat up in the second quarter that sparked the victory.
Seniors
Allison Baggett and
Jayln Johnson led the Cowgirls' offense with a combined 34 points. Baggett ended the game with 20 and Johnson chipped in 14. Johnson also ended the game with six steals. Sophomore
Jasmyn Carswell had a career game with nine points and 12 rebounds.
The Cowgirls enter Sunday's game averaging 63.8 points per game and 37.3 rebounds per game. SUNO is averaging 56.0 points per contest and 34.0 rpg. but are turning the ball over an average of 16.5 times per game.
Johnson leads McNeese in scoring (13.3 ppg.), assists (4.8) and steals (2.8) while Baggett is second on the team with 12.8 ppg. Sophomore
Frederica Haywood leads the Cowgirls with 8.5 rpg. and is averaging 6.5 ppg. Junior
Amber Donnes is coming off the bench to average 9.0 ppg. Donnes leads with a 46.2 three-point field goal percent, connecting on 6 of 13 from behind the arc.
