Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAFAYETTE—McNeese softball suffered two losses on the final day of the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns Invitational on Sunday, falling 3-2 to Hofstra and 11-3 to no. 6 UL-Lafayette.

In the first game of the day for the Cowgirls against Hofstra, McNeese (9-5) took a 1-0 lead on sacrifice fly by Taylor Goree in the second. Lauren Langner's sacrifice fly in the third gave McNeese a 2-0 lead.  Hofstra scored two runs in the bottom of the inning on a two RBI single by Brittany Allocca to tie the game at two apiece.

Hofstra scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh to take the game 3-2. A pinch hit RBI single by Brielle Pietrafesa scored the winning run.

McNeese collected four hits with singles coming from Hailey Drew, Dakota Matiko, Langner and Goree. Emily Vincent dropped her first game of the season to fall to 4-1 on the year. Vincent gave up eight hits with six strikeouts and walked two in the complete game.

In the final game of the tournament, McNeese hung with the Cajuns in the early innings but the Cajuns' bats came alive in the fifth to take the win. Langner and Emily Vincent represented McNeese on the all-tournament team.

UL-Lafayette took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning when the Cajuns' leadoff hitter Haley Hayden homered over the right centerfield wall. A two out, two RBI triple off the left field wall by Aleah Craighton gave the Cajuns a 3-0 lead. Craighton scores during a run down for a 4-0 lead.

McNeese cut the lead Cajun in half in the bottom of the second on a two run home run by Erika Piancastelli. The home run is Piancastelli's first career long ball and the first hit of the season given by the Cajuns pitcher Jordan Wallace who hadn't allowed a run in the last 38 ½ innings. McNeese wasted a golden opportunity to score more runs in the inning with bases loaded and one out. The threat ended when Dakota Matiko hit into an inning ending double play.

The Cajuns got a run back in the top of the second on a two out RBI double by Shellie Landry for a 5-2 lead.

After a pitching change by the Cowgirls, a bases loaded walk in the third by Sara Corbello extended the UL-Lafayette lead to 6-2. McNeese's Rachel Smith got Hayden to pop up to third with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Craighton's sacrifice fly in the fourth extended the UL-Lafayette lead to 7-2. UL-Lafayette attempted to score another run but the runner was thrown out at the plate in an attempted steal to end the inning.

An Illegal pitch by Jolie Trahan, the Cowgirls' second reliever in the fifth pushed another run across the plate for the Cajuns that gave them an 8-2 lead. A three run home run by Lexie Elkins blew the game open for an 11-2 lead.

Goree's second home run of the season in the sixth was the last run the Cowgirls would score.

McNeese picked up four hits for the second time today and Jamie Allred took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season. Allred gave up six runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout in two innings. Smith gave up three runs on two hits, walked five and struck out one.

The Cowgirls return to the diamond this weekend to host their own Cowgirl Classic.
