Softball Travels To UTSA For Midweek Game Wednesday

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball will step out of conference play for a midweek game at UTSA on Wednesday before returning to conference play at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the weekend for a three game series.
 
McNeese (16-6) has won six of their last seven games including a Southland Conference opening series sweep over Sam Houston State last weekend.
 
Senior Lauren Langner continues to pace the Cowgirls at the plate with a .429 batting average. Langner leads the Cowgirls with 27 hits and is third on the team with five doubles and 12 runs scored.
 
Freshman Hailey Drew is second on the team with a .412 average and 17 RBI. She also has 21 hits including four doubles and three home runs and has scored 15 runs. Drew leads the Cowgirls with 10 stolen bases. She leads the squad with 16 walks.
 
Emily Vincent and Erika Piancastelli are both batting over .300. Vincent is hitting .379 and Piancastelli has a .369 average.
 
Vincent has 25 hits, six doubles, three home runs along with nine RBI. In the circle, Vincent has a 7-1 record with a team low 1.11 ERA. She has two shutouts on the season and has given up only eight runs in 44.1 innings with 37 strikeouts.
 
Piancastelli is coming off a weekend where she was 7 for 9 with four home runs, a double, nine RBI and was intentionally walked twice. The freshman leads the team with six home runs, 20 RBI and eight doubles.  She also has 24 hits on the season and has scored 12 runs.
 
Also in the circle, Rachel Smith is 6-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 44.0 innings. The sophomore has a team-high 44 strikeouts along with one shutout.
 
UTSA (17-6) enters the game with a 5-1 home record with their only loss coming against Iowa State in the UTSA Classic on Feb. 20. The Roadrunners are coming off a series win at Southern Miss to open Conference USA play.
 
 UTSA has one of the nation's best offenses, ranking eighth in home runs per game, slugging percent, scoring and batting average.
 
Outfielder Jade Smith leads the Roadrunners with a .516 average, 33 hits and 26 runs scored. Megan Low and Randee Crawford both have eight home runs apiece.
