LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis squad will put its undefeated Southland Conference record and seven-match winning streak to the test Tuesday morning when the Cowgirls face off against undefeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 11 a.m. at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
McNeese (12-4, 5-0 SLC) enters the contest deadlocked with the Islanders atop the Southland Conference standings and could take sole possession of first with a victory. A&M-Corpus Christi (12-0, 3-0 SLC) has yet to drop a contest this season and joins the Pokes as the only squads still perfect in league play.
Attendance to Tuesday's match, as well as all matches played at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center, is free. Free Jimmy John's sandwiches will be available for fans in attendance.
The Cowgirls strung together their seventh win in row Sunday afternoon with a dominating, 6-1, effort against Incarnate Word. McNeese has not surrendered more than two points in a contest since February 9 against Louisiana Tech and owns a 70-25 combined singles dual record, the most wins in the league.
Sophomore
Hannah Brett has been on a tear lately with nine consecutive singles wins and a 5-0 mark in SLC play. Perhaps, one of the most impressive efforts has come from freshman
Giovanna Fioretti, who has played and won all four matches from the top spot.
The Islanders enter with four players who currently ride a singles win streak of five matches or more and are led by Celia Rodriguez, who is 12-0 on the year and Judit Vives who holds a 10-0 mark. The Islanders combine for a 55-4 singles dual record and 11-1 SLC mark.
AMCC took a pair of home matches last week against Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans and also downed Northwestern State on the road to begin conference play. The Islanders have given up just two points in a match once this season.
Following Tuesday's match, McNeese will hit the road for the first time in over three weeks with a conference contest at Abilene Christian on Friday, March 25 at 10 a.m.
