GAINSVILLE, Fla. – McNeese's
Kartavius Hamilton and
Nicole Casper soared to the team's best finishes here on Friday, the second day of the Pepsi Florida Relays.
Hamilton finished third in the long jump with a season-best mark of 24-feet, 1 ¾-inches, falling less than five inches short of first place that was won by Tennessee's Mustaqeem Williams (24-06.50).
Casper placed fourth in the women's pole vault with a clearing of 13-03.50. She cleared that on her very first attempt but failed on three straight attempts at the 13-09.25 height.
Oliver James posted a personal record in the 1500-meters with a time of 3:47.55. He finished first in his heat and 19
th overall in the event. In addition,
Luke Betts tied a PR in the event with a time of 3:54.34.
Enock Bor clocked a 9:31.24 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in his first competition in the event on the season.
In the throws,
Hiram Morales placed 11
th in the discus throw with a toss of 156-03 for his second longest mark of the season.
In the women's throws,
RaKira Turner placed 15
th in the discus with a mark of 148-07.
Distance runners
Rhian Dawes and
Alison Smegal each posted personal bests in their respective events. Dawes was timed with a 4:37.21 in the 1,500-meter run while Smegal clocked an 11:31.80 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Other Cowgirl times include
Danielle Epps with an 11.77 and
Simone Johnson an 11.95 in the 100-meter dash and
Nina Radisavljevic a 1:06.23 in the 400-meter hurdles.
The meet concludes on Saturday where Cowboys' triple jumper
John Lemke, Morales in the shot put, and the women's 4x100-relay team will be looking to post top marks.
