LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis squad dropped a Southland Conference match Sunday afternoon to Northwestern State in a 4-3 decision at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
The Cowgirls celebrated Senior Day as they honored
Klaudia Gawlik and
Anastasija Trubich for their contributions to the legacy of the McNeese tennis program before the match.
McNeese (13-7, 6-3 SLC) still remains in second place in the league standings despite the loss and has two matches left with New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana next weekend.
Northwestern State (9-10, 5-4 SLC) took the early lead by winning the doubles point in courts one and two.
In singles, the Lady Demons went up 3-0 before Cowgirl netter
Sarah Jurakova defeated Polina Mutel 6-1, 7-6 in the third spot to cut the lead.
Sophomore
Hannah Brett continued her singles winning streak with a win over Polina Ivanova in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to cut the lead to a 3-2 score. Brett has now won 13 consecutive matches.
Trubich remained perfect in singles play as she tied the match up in a 7-5, 6-3 win in the No. 6 spot before Barbora Kollarova clinched the match for the Lady Demons in the No. 5 position with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over
Charoline Erlandsson.
The Cowgirls will finish out Southland Conference action next weekend on the road before entering the Southland Conference Tournament on the campus of Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas.
