LAKE CHARLES—Coming off a 2-3 record at the South Alabama Mardi Gras Invitational last weekend, McNeese softball will travel to Waco, Texas Wednesday for a doubleheader against No. 24 Baylor. First pitch is set 4 p.m. and can be seen live in the Lake Area on Suddenlink Channel 38. Livestreaming and livestats will also be available. McNeese (5-6) will look to halt a two game losing streak after falling 1-0 in eight innings to South Alabama last Saturday before ending tournament play with a 13-5, six inning loss to Murray State on Sunday.
Senior
Marisa Taunton, who was named to the all-tournament team after batting .500 in tournament play, leads McNeese into the Baylor doubleheader with a .375 average and a .417 slugging percent. The speedster has nine hits and a team best seven stolen bases. Junior
Morgan Catron is hitting .306 and leads the Cowgirls with 11 hits and 10 RBI with two home runs.
All-American
Erika Piancastelli hasn't put up the offensive numbers she has in the past but she leads the team with 12 walks and is batting .241.
In the circle, senior
Rachel Smith leads the staff with a 1.68 ERA with a 1-2 record while junior
Jolie Trahan is 2-1 with a 2.37 ERA and freshman
Alexsandra Flores (1-1) leads the staff with 14 strikeouts.
Baylor (7-3) is coming off a 4-1 record from its own Getterman Classic last weekend. The Bears have three players batting over .400 with Kayla Walker leading the team with a .600 average with 18 hits, two doubles and two triples. Jessie Scroggins is hitting .441 with 15 hits, four doubles while Maddison Kettler is batting .400 with 12 hits. Lindsey Cargill has 11 hits with a .379 average and Ari Hawkins leads Baylor with 10 RBI.
Following Wednesday's DH, McNeese will return home to host Tulsa at 6 p.m. Friday.
