Cowboys Fall To #18 UL-Lafayette, 3-1

LAKE CHARLES – The UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns launched two home runs and held a hot-hitting McNeese baseball team to just two hits on the night to take down the Cowboys, 3-1, and snap a 16-game home winning streak Tuesday evening at Joe Miller Ballpark.

The Cowboys (18-7) dropped their third consecutive mid-week contest in the loss to ULL and dropped their first contest at home since losing to Central Arkansas back on May 13, 2016. The win propelled the Cajuns to 14-9 on the year as they prepare to take on Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night.

Robbie Podorsky and Shane Selman collected the only hits of the evening for McNeese. Podorsky pushed his team-best hitting streak to 18 consecutive contests with a single in the fifth inning.

ULL took a two-run lead early as Tyler Stover hit a two-run bomb over the left field scoreboard in the top of the second inning.

A Cajun error in the bottom of the frame allowed the Cowboys to cut the lead in half as Selman singled to lead off. He advanced to second due to a ULL throwing error and took advantage to grab third. On the next play, Will Fox grounded out and allowed Selman to come home for the run and make it a 2-1 score.

In the seventh inning, UL-Lafayette launched its second home run of the game as Handsome Monica led off the frame with the solo shot. The tater gave the Cajuns a 3-1 lead that would hold until the end.

Aidan Anderson (2-2) took the loss for McNeese after having tossed 4.0 innings and surrendered two run off of four hits while having struck out six batters.

The McNeese bullpen combined for 5.0 frames and gave up just one run off of one hit and five punchouts.

ULL's Jack Burk was credited with the win after working 6.0 innings and allowed no earned runs with two strikeouts.

The Cajuns hit five times in the game while hold McNeese to two. ULL stranded six on base while the Pokes left five on.

The Cowboys will be back in action this weekend when they head to Hammond, Louisiana for a three-game series with Southland Conference foe Southeastern Louisiana. McNeese enters with a 9-0 league record while the Lions come into the series with a 5-4 mark.
