LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball will step out of Southland Conference action Wednesday for a midweek game at the University of Houston. McNeese (22-11) is coming off its first Southland Conference road sweep of the season at Incarnate Word last weekend. The Cowgirls will enter Wednesday's game having won 17 of their last 19 games.
Sophomore
Justyce McClain will lead McNeese into the game with a .438 batting average along with 28 hits, two doubles and two triples and 10 RBI.
Erika Piancastelli has a .366 average and leads the Cowgirls with 34 hits, 31 runs scored, ranks fifth in the nation with 33 walks, has a team high 10 stolen bases and is tied with
Morgan Catron with a team best seven home runs. Catron is batting .345 and has a team best .667 slugging percent and 32 RBI.
The Cowgirl pitching staff has had its fair share of outstanding performances in the last 19 games. Freshman
Alexsandra Flores and senior
Rachel Smith both have seven wins on the season. Flores is 7-2 with a 1.99 ERA and 33 strikeouts. Smith is 7-5 overall with a 2.72 ERA and leads the staff with 57 strikeouts. Senior
Baylee Corbello who splits time at first base is 5-2 in the circle with a 3.38 ERA and 29 strikeouts. At the plate, Corbello is batting .340 with 18 hits and 13 RBI.
Houston (16-13) is coming off an American Conference series win at Central Florida last weekend and the Cougars have won 10 of their last 12 games.
Maya Thomas enters the game with a .477 batting average with 31 hits and 12 of 14 stolen bases. Arielle James is batting .404 with a team best 36 hits and five doubles. Shelby Miller leads the Cougars with eight home runs and is batting .365.
Trystan Melancon and Savannah Heebner both have seven victories on the season. Melancon is 7-5 with a 2.45 ERA and 57 strikeouts. Heebner is 7-4 with a 2.55 ERA and 47 strikeouts.
