Cowgirls Begin Seven Game Home Stand Tuesday Against Houston Baptist

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball will begin a seven game home stand beginning with a 6 p.m. non-conference game against Houston Baptist Tuesday night at Cowgirl Diamond.
 
The game will be broadcast live on the McNeese Radio Network (1310 AM) and kezmonline.com. Fans can watch the game via live streaming and follow live stats. All links can be found on the softball schedule page on mcneesesports.com.
 
McNeese (12-10) is coming off a 4-1 record at the San Diego I Classic last weekend that saw the Cowgirls pick up wins over Brigham Young, San Diego State, San Jose State and UC Davis. Its lone loss came against Oregon State in the final game of the tournament. The Cowgirls have won seven of their last eight games.
 
Houston Baptist (7-5) is coming off a 6-5 win at Central Arkansas at the Central Arkansas Invitational on Feb. 26. The Huskies have won five of their last six games. HBU leads the league with a team .318 batting average and a .981 fielding percent. Heidi Jaquez leads the Huskies and ranks second in the SLC with a .439 batting average with 18 hits, six doubles and nine RBI. Emily Mueller and Stephanie Buenrostro both lead the pitching staff with three wins apiece. Mueller is 3-3 on the year with a team low 2.91 ERA and 17 strikeouts. Buenrostro is 3-1 with a 5.48 ERA with 10 strikeouts.
 
The Cowgirls now have six players batting .300 and above and are led at the plate by junior Morgan Catron who is batting .353 with 24 hits.  Catron currently ranks eighth in the nation with 24 RBI and is tied with Erika Piancastelli with five home runs on the season. Senior Tori Yanitor has 21 RBI on the season and is second on the team with 21 hits.
 
Freshman Alexsandra Flores and senior Rachel Smith both have four wins on the season. Flores is 4-2 on the season with a 2.81 ERA and 21 strikeouts. The rookie from Lufkin, Texas has won her last three games. Smith, the native of Baytown, Texas is 4-4 on the year with a 3.10 ERA and leads the staff with 32 strikeouts. Smith has won three of her last four games with two wins coming in California last weekend.
