23rd Ranked Cowgirls Travel To LSU Invitational This Weekend

LAKE CHARLES--  The 23rd ranked McNeese softball team will take to the road once again this weekend when the Cowgirls take part at the LSU Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
 
McNeese (14-3) will ride a nine game winning streak when they begin tournament play against Purdue (2-11) at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The Cowgirls will conclude the day with a 7:30 p.m. game against 10th ranked LSU (14-2). The Cowgirls will face Illinois State (5-10) at 9:30 a.m. and Florida Atlantic (9-7) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday to conclude tournament play. The Cowgirls are coming off a 2-0 road win at UL-Monroe on Wednesday that saw sophomore Alexsandra Flores hurl a three hit shutout. Flores leads the Cowgirl pitching staff with a 6-2 record with a 2.62 ERA in 40.0 innings. She also leads the team with 24 strikeouts.
 
Also in the circle, the Cowgirls have freshmen Caroline Settle, Amber Coons and Ashley Koncir. Settle is 4-1 with a 3.03 ERA, 39.1 innings with 15 strikeouts. Coons is 3-0 with a 3.77 ERA, 26.0 innings with 18 strikeouts and Koncir is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 9.1 innings with one strikeout.
 
At the plate, the Cowgirls have gotten production from several different players as of late. Most recently, sophomore Brenique Wright provided all the offense against ULM as she hit a two run homerun that accounted for all the McNeese runs. The long ball was her fifth of the season. She enters the weekend with a .317 batting average and is second on the team with 13 RBI and 10 walks. 
 
Junior Justyce McClain has been tearing it up at the plate and on the base paths. She leads the team with a .481 average, 26 hits, and 16 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. The right fielder also has eight RBI and hit her first career homerun last week against Villanova.
 
Five other players are batting over .300 with Morgan Catron hitting .356 with 16 hits and 12 RBI. Aubree Turbeville is hitting .333 with five hits including her first career homerun against Arkansas last week. Alexandria Saldivar is hitting.316 with 12 hits and nine RBI and Shelbi Strickland is batting .308 with four hits. Erika Piancastelli leads the Cowgirls with six home runs, 16 RBI, 11 walks and is tied for a team high in doubles with Carleigh Chaumont. Both players have three doubles on the year.
