Softball Travels To Lamar This Weekend For SLC Series

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball returns to Southland Conference action this weekend when the Cowgirls will make a short trip down I-10 to face Lamar in a three game series beginning with a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday. The series will conclude with a single game Saturday at 3 p.m. All game will be streamed on Facebook Live and live stats will also be available. Links are located on mcneesesports.com.
 
McNeese (30-16, 12-6 SLC) is coming off a 5-3 home loss to 22nd ranked UL-Lafayette on Wednesday. The Cowgirls are one of four teams tied for the conference lead heading into the weekend. 
 
Nicholls, Southeastern La., and Stephen F. Austin also have a 12-6 conference record. Nicholls will host Northwestern State, Southeastern La. will host Central Arkansas, and SFA will travel to Incarnate Word this weekend.
 
Justyce McClain leads McNeese and ranks second in the SLC with a .432 batting average, 64 hits, and 20 stolen bases while Erika Piancastelli is batting .346 with a league best 15 home runs. She also leads the team with 14 doubles, 45 RBI, and 38 walks. Morgan Catron is batting .328 with 10 home runs, 39 RBI and 41 hits while Alexandria Saldivar is bating .319 with 30 hits and 25 RBI. Lauren Brown is batting .311 with 23 hits, 14 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
 
Sophomore Alexsandra Flores enters the weekend with a 14-7 overall record with a 2.66 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 118.1 innings. Caroline Settle (7-6) has a 4.32 ERA in 84.1 innings while Amber Coons (5-2) has a 3.75 ERA in 59.2 innings. Ashley Koncir (4-1) looks to bounce back from her first loss of the season against ULL, has a 4.33 ERA.
 
Lamar (24-21, 9-9 SLC) is coming off a road conference series loss at Central Arkansas. The Cardinals opened the series with a 5-2 opening game win before dropping the next two 8-5 and 7-6.
 
Savana Guidry has a team best .340 batting average, 50 hits, 13 stolen bases and seen doubles. Kelly Meeuwsen leads the team with seven home runs, 48 hits, eight doubles, and is second with 27 RBI and third with a .333 batting average. Kendall Talley is batting .336 with 44 hits.
 
Laura Napoli leads the pitching staff with a 12-11 record and a 3.01 ERA in 146.1 innings. She has 48 strikeouts on the year with nine complete games. Taylor Gruell is 7-6 with a 3.85 ERA in 100.1 innings.
