Cowboys visit Warhawks in mid-week action on Tuesday

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Baseball, winners of five out of its last six games, will hit the road on Tuesday for some mid-week action at Louisiana-Monroe.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

On Monday, Cowboys' pitcher Aidan Anderson and outfielder Jake Cochran were recognized by the Southland Conference with honorable mention player of the week accolades.

The duo helped the Cowboys to a 3-1 record last week including a 2-1 Southland Conference series win over Northwestern State this past weekend giving the Cowboys their fifth league series win on the season while moving them back into a second place tie in the conference standings.

For the week, Cochran hit .500 (8-for-16) with two doubles, four RBI and a run scored. He recorded three multi-hit games and went 5-for-12 with a double and two RBI against the Demons. He was also 5-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Anderson pitched in two games for the week, both in relief effort, and posted a 1-0 record with a save. He entered Friday night's game against NSU in the ninth inning of the 13-inning contest, and did not allow a run while only giving up one hit. He also struck out a career-high 10 batters and combined with his brother, starter Grant, to set a new school single-game record with 18 batters struck out.

He closed out a 12-10 win over HBU earlier in the week for his fifth save on the season.

The Cowboys will enter Tuesday's game with an 19-21 overall mark but 4-1 over the last five games and 7-3 across the last 10.

Left-handed pitcher Austin Briggs is expected to get the start in what will likely be a pitch-by-committee outing as McNeese gets ready for its biggest conference series of the season when it hosts Sam Houston State this coming weekend.

Briggs is 0-2 on the season and has started two previous games while making 14 appearances.

ULM is 18-21 on the season and has lost six of its last seven games.

The Warhawks will make a return trip to Lake Charles on May 15.
