ACU leads the all-time series 4-1 since the 2013-14 season and have won the last four meetings including an 80-75 win in Lake Charles last season.
McNeese (2-11, 0-2 SLC) is coming off an 82-63 road loss at Northwestern State last Saturday that saw the Cowgirls not helping their cause by turning the ball over 33 times. On top of that, McNeese didn't shoot the ball particularly well in the first half but was able to cut the NW State lead to nine points after trailing by as much as 22 points in the second half before the Lady Demons went on another run.
"We put ourselves in that situation at Northwestern State by spotting them 20 points to begin the game," said head coach
Kacie Cryer. "We lacked passion and fire early and we didn't make shots around the rim when we needed to. We've got to cut down on the turnovers and keep grinding and pushing forward."
The Cowgirls will enter Wednesday's game leading the conference and ranked 13
th in the nation in overall rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game. McNeese is averaging 48.0 rpg. and 18.0 offensive rebounds per game in league play.
"We can't dwell on the past and must keep looking forward because if we dwell on the past, its going to become a mental game for all of us. There is still a lot of basketball left to play and anything can happen."
Freshman
Divine Tanks leads McNeese with 8.3 rpg. Tanks as well as
Damilola Balogun and
Bre'Ashlee Jones have been a force on the boards in the first two SLC games. Tanks and Balogun are hauling down 9.5 per conference game and Jones is averaging 9.0 per contest.
As a team, the Cowgirls are averaging 64.5 ppg. in league play with four players averaging in double digits.
In the past two conference games, freshman
Callie Maddox leads the team with 14.0 ppg. Balogun is averaging 13.0 ppg., Jones and Tanks are both averaging 10.5 ppg.
ACU (9-4, 2-0 SLC) is one of four currently undefeated teams in the SLC heading into Wednesday's games. The Wildcats picked up their SLC wins over New Orleans and Sam Houston State on the road and it will be the SLC home opener for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats lead the conference in assists per game (17.2), rebound margin (+8.5), and 3-point field goal attempts (340).
