SCHEDULE
LAKE CHARLES – Second-year McNeese Cowgirl tennis head coach
Giorgia Pozzan has announced the 2020 schedule that includes a visit to 2019 NCAA Second Round participant Texas A&M as well as matches at Baylor, Houston and SMU.
Â
The Cowgirls, who finished 11-10 last season and tied for fifth in the Southland Conference standings with a 6-5 mark while qualifying for the league's postseason tournament, will open the season on January 17 at Baylor.
Â
McNeese will be on the road for the entire month of January before opening its 7-match home slate on February 9 against Tyler Junior College who is a perennial power in the JUCO ranks.
Â
The Cowgirls will follow that with a visit to Texas A&M on Feb. 14 before returning home on Feb. 18 against Louisiana-Lafayette.
Â
McNeese will begin conference play on Feb. 28 at Incarnate Word.
Â
"I'm looking forward to the upcoming season as we have some great competition ahead of us," said Pozzan. "Similar to our fall season, I wanted the spring (schedule) to be a challenge for the team, which is why we're playing several Power 5 schools on the road.
Â
"I think having such strong competition prior to conference play will help us prepare in the best way.
Â
"We have done a lot of great work during the offseason, not it's time to get some rest, recharge and get ready for Baylor on January 17."
Â
McNeese will play five home matches in March but all five matches in April will be away from the Nancy Hank Tennis Complex.
