SB: Cowgirls Conclude Home Stand Against UL-Monroe Tuesday

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball team will conclude its five-game home stand Tuesday night with a 6 p.m. game against Louisiana-Monroe.
 
McNeese (6-9) is coming off a 0-4 week that saw the Cowgirls fall 7-2 to Houston last Wednesday and dropped a three-game series to Austin Peay last weekend with a 4-0 loss in the opening game then dropped a 2-1 (16 inning) game in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Cowgirls closed out the week with a 4-3 loss in the second game of the doubleheader.
 
Senior Justyce McClain continues to lead the Cowgirls at the plate with a .431 average, 22 hits, 13 runs scored, and seven stolen bases. Sophomore Demi Boudreaux is second on the team with 13 hits and leads the team with six doubles while Cori McCrary leads the Cowgirls with 11 RBI and two home runs.
 
In the circle, the pitching staff gave the Cowgirls opportunities to win last week and got two outstanding outings by sophomore Amber Coons. Coons didn't pick up a decision last week despite allowing only one earned run in 12 innings. She pitched 4 1/3 innings against Houston and 7 1/3 in the 16-inning game against Austin Peay on Saturday.
 
Coons (1-0) currently has a team low 0.61 ERA in five appearances and 23 innings with 11 strikeouts.
 
Freshman Saleen Flores (0-2) has a 0.94 ERA in seven appearances, 22 1/3 innings and 10 strikeouts while sophomore Caroline Settle (1-4) has a 3.04 ERA in six appearances, 25 1/3 innings and 11 strikeouts. Alexsandra Flores (4-3) has a 3.45 ERA in 42.2 innings and leads the team with 22 strikeouts.
 
ULM (1-14) enters the game on an 11-game losing streak with its only win coming with a 5-3 win over Austin Peay at the Alabama-Birmingham Blazer Bash on Feb. 9.
 
The Warhawks are coming off a 0-5 record at the Easton Bama Bash where they played Minnesota and Missouri State twice and concluded tournament play with a 5-1 loss to Alabama on Sunday.
 
Sydney McKay leads ULM with a .383 average, 18 hits, six stolen bases and is second on the team with seven RBI. Jessie Watts leads the team with 12 RBI and four doubles.
 
ULM has used a total of five pitchers this season and Watts leads the staff with a 3.44 ERA while Murphy Williams has pitched a team high 27 innings and has a 4.41 ERA while Adrianna Chavarria leads the staff with 13 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings with a 5.10 ERA.
