LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowboys baseball team will be back at home for a seven-game home stand starting with a three-game series with the Lamar Cardinals on Friday night to start Southland Conference play. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Second game of the series will be Saturday at 3 p.m. and then the finale will be on Sunday at 1 p.m.
This will be the 197-199th meeting between the Cardinals and Cowboys with Lamar leading the all-time series 119-75-2 and having won three of the last five match-ups.
McNeese last beat the Cardinals on May 24, 2017 by way of a 7-5 victory in the opening round of the Southland Conference Tournament in Sugar Land on their way to a conference championship.
Senior center fielder
Shane Selman is leading the Cowboys high powered offense with a .368 batting average, 28 hits, eight doubles, two triples, has 19 RBIs, and is slugging .566.
Senior right-hander
Rhett Deaton has solidified himself as the Friday starter for the Cowboys rotation and he will be back on the bump once again come Friday night for his fifth start of the year.
Coach Hill hasn't decided on a Saturday starter as of now, but he has given the nod to senior righty
Cayne Ueckert for Sunday's game.
The Cowboys are looking to bounce back quickly from a 9-3 loss to the Tulane Green Wave on Tuesday night in New Orleans.

ON THE OPPONENTS
• The Cardinals enter Friday's game with a 6-10 record. Most recently, Lamar was swept in their conference opening series against Stephen F. Austin and lost to Rice in Houston on Tuesday.
• This will be their first conference road series of the year and their second overall conference series
ON DECK
Following the weekend series against the Cardinals, the Cowboys will be home to host the University of Houston on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and then conference foe Incarnate Word March 22-24.
