LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball returns to the diamond this weekend when they will travel to Hammond for a Southland Conference series against Southeastern Louisiana beginning with a single game at 5 p.m. Friday before the series concludes with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
McNeese (24-26, 15-6 SLC) currently sits in third place in the conference standings, two games behind co-leaders Nicholls and Sam Houston State.
The Cowgirls are coming off an 8-4 road loss at South Alabama on Wednesday and McNeese has lost four of its last five games including a home conference series against Nicholls last weekend.
Senior outfielder
Justyce McClain continues to lead the Cowgirl offense with a .414 overall batting average. McClain boast a .429 average in conference games along with .471 slugging percent.
Junior shortstop
Cori McCrary is batting .322 overall and .410 in league play while
Sara Geier is batting .283 overall and .341 in conference action.
The Cowgirls pitching staff enters the weekend with an overall 2.69 ERA and ranks third in the SLC with a 2.01 ERA.
Freshman
Saleen Flores has the lowest ERA on the staff 1.82 while
Amber Coons is second with a 2.36.
Alexsandra Flores has a 3.04 ERA,
Caroline Settle has a 3.15 ERA and
Ashley Koncir has a 4.61 ERA.
In conference games,
Alexsandra Flores is third in the league with a 1.44 ERA,
Saleen Flores is ninth (1.74) and Settle ranks 10
th with a 1.91 ERA.
Southeastern La. (29-18, 14-7 SLC) enters the weekend tied for fourth place in the league standings with Stephen F. Austin.
The Lady Lions enter the weekend leading the nation in stolen bases with 208 and have three players ranked in the Top 5 in stolen bases with the nation's leader in Jaquelyn Ramon who has 57 on the year. Mima Doucet ranks fourth with 27 and Lindsey Rizzo ranks fifth with 26.
SE La. Also leads the league with a .311 team batting average. Ella Manzer leads SLU with a .367 average, while Ramon is batting .346.
The pitching staff is led by Alley McDonald who is 11-6 on the year with a 2.11 ERA in 116.1 innings. Tanner Wright is 6-5 with a 2.80 ERA in 65.0 innings while Sophie Hannabas is 6-4 with a 3.52 ERA in 55.2 innings. Both McDonald and Wright lead the staff with 41 strikeouts.
