Cowboys Host Islanders in Last Home Series

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowboys, winners of their last five Southland Conference baseball games, will look to keep the streak alive this weekend when they close out their home slate against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
Game one is scheduled for 6 p.m., Graduates will be recognized before game two on Saturday at 6 p.m., and the series finale will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Seniors will have a small ceremony starting 12:40 p.m.
 
The Cowboys have lost two-straight series against the Islanders but won the last meeting between the two in last year's game three of a weekend series.
 
The Cowboys (27-22, 12-12 SLC) are coming off a 4-1, mid-week win against Prairie View on Wednesday night and a three-game sweep of SFA last weekend. Corpus Christi (29-22, 13-14 SLC) was defeated by Sam Houston State 2-1 in a weekend series last weekend.
 
Junior Jake Dickerson and Clayton Rasbeary lead the Cowboys' high-powered offense with a .315 and .302 batting average. Rasbeary has been unstoppable in the last five games, totaling seven hits, two doubles, one HR, three runs scored, and seven RBI's.
 
Senior right-hander Rhett Deaton (6-3, 3.77 ERA) will take the mound once again on Friday night for his 13th start of the year. In his last outing, Deaton delivered another gem, throwing seven shutout innings, surrendering only two hits, and striking out four batters for his sixth victory on the year.
 
The starter for Saturday and Sunday's match-up is still TBA.

• McNeese enters the weekend series looking to continue their great play and extend their four-game winning streak and five-game conference winning streak. The Cowboys swept SFA in a three-game series (W 2-0, W 6-1, W 5-1) and defeated Prairie View (W 4-1) most recently.
• Junior designated hitter Clayton Rasbeary leads the Cowboys offensively with a .302 batting average, 14 doubles, eight home runs, and 36 RBI's.
• Junior utility player Jake Dickerson also has a huge bat for the Cowboys, as he heads into the game with a .315 batting average, nine doubles, three home runs, 27 RBI's, and 10 stolen bases.
• The Cowboys currently have four starters hitting over .290 from the plate, Payton Harden, Nate Fisbeck, Dickerson, and Rasbeary.
• On the mound, Freshman left-hander Will Dion leads the team. He has a 2.27 ERA, 4-0 record, 50.2 innings pitched, and 48 strikeouts in 22 appearances. He is one of six Cowboys pitchers with a sub-four ERA and one of two with a sub-three ERA, including Jonathan Ellison (2.78), Aidan Anderson (3.20), Bryan King (3.43), and Peyton McLemore (3.62), and Rhett Deaton (3.77).
• McNeese is batting .274 as a team and has a 4.39 ERA, compared to opponents' .238 average and 4.98 ERA.
 
ON THE OPPONENTS
• The Islanders enter Friday's game with a 29-22 record. Most recently, Corpus Christi was defeated by Sam Houston State last weekend, 2-1, in a three-game series.
• This will be their last conference series of the season and sit one half games behind the Cowboys.
 
ON DECK
Following the weekend series against the Islanders, the Cowboys will finish season against the Houston Baptist Huskies in Houston May 16-18.
