SAN DIEGO– The McNeese Cowgirl tennis squad opened up its fall schedule at the San Diego Invitational over the weekend as the doubles duo of Dali Ahmed and Sofia San Jose knocked off Pac-12 Conference member Utah in the opening round by a 6-1 score.
 
The Cowgirl team fell to San Jose State's Savannah Sendar and Rozalina Youseva in the semifinals by a score of 6-4.
 
They bounced back, however, in their next match against Lauren Anderson and Ekaterina Repina of California State-Northridge, defeating them 6-1 to secure third place in Flight A.
 
In singles action, Marija Mastilovic advanced through the consolation bracket after dropping the opening match in Flight A play, and went on to win back-to-back matches, defeating Tamara Culibrk of San Jose State in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) and Jolene Coetzee of California State-Northridge (2-6, 6-2, 7-5) in three sets to win the consolation bracket final. 
 
The Cowgirls will be back in action at the ITA Regional Championships in Baton Rouge on October 17 followed by the SLU Invitational in Hammond, LA on October 25.
