SB: Cowgirls Travel To Texas A&M Thursday

LAKE CHARLES—Coming off a 4-1 opening weekend record at its own Cowgirl Classic, McNeese softball will play its next first road games in the state of Texas beginning with a 6 p.m. contest at Texas A&M Thursday. The game will broadcast on SECN+.
 
Texas A&M is coming off a 3-2 record following its own Aggie Classic. The Aggies opened the season with a 2-0 win over UT-Arlington then picked up two more against Abilene Christian.
 
Following Thursday's game, McNeese will travel to Conroe where they will take part in the Scrap Yard Tournament Saturday and Sunday.
 
The Cowgirls will play South Dakota State (2-2) at 4:30 p.m. and UAB (4-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, McNeese will play UAB again at 11 a.m. and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m.
 
South Dakota State is coming off an 8-1 loss against Drake at the Doc Halverson/UNI Dome Tournament while UAB's only loss last weekend was an 8-7 decision to no. 1 ranked Washington at the Georgia Tech Tournament.
 
UAB will play at Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night before heading to Conroe this weekend.
 
Texas A&M-CC (0-4) under first year head coach Kristen Zaleski opened its season at the University of Texas Tournament. The Islanders are coming off an 18-2 loss to Texas in the final game of the tournament.
 
McNEESE NOTES

•-fourth year head coach James Landreneau, the 2017 SLC's Coach of the Year picked up his 100th career win in the second game of the SLC series at Houston Baptist on March 29, 2019. Landreneau has won over 40 games two of his three seasons as head coach (43 wins in 2017 & 41 in 2018).
•- McNeese will play four teams ranked in the 2020 preseason polls this season (Alabama, Arizona, UL-Lafayette, LSU
 
THE COWGIRL OFFENSE
•- The Cowgirls have a .339 batting average and 17 steals in 21 attempts
•- have outscored the opponents 36-4
•-enter the game with 39 hits, four doubles, and three stolen bases
•- Junior Toni Perrin leads the Cowgirls with a .385 batting average and is second on the team with five hits.
•- Senior Brenique Wright opened her senior campaign with her first two home runs of the season. Wright is coming off an injury that sidelined her for the final 29 games of 2109.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
•- McNeese returns four of five pitchers from last season. The only newcomer is freshman Whitney Tate
•-McNeese held the opponents to a .125 batting average, struck out 28 and walked only four batters in its opening weekend.
•-As a staff, the Cowgirls have a 0.93 ERA, 28 strikeouts, and have given up only four walks
•-Ashley Koncir, Caroline Settle, and Alexsandra Flores all picked up one shutout last weekend
•-Koncir leads and Whitney Tate both lead staff with a 0.00 ERA while Settle has a 0.70 ERA. Alexsandra Flores (1.40) and Saleen Flores (1.75) are also coming off a good showing in the circle.
