Theo Berger named GCAA All-America Scholar

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese sophomore golfer Theo Berger has been named a 2020 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the GCAA, the organization announced this week.
 
He's just the second Cowboy golfer in school history to receive the honor, joining Martin Eriksson who earned the award in 2015 and 2016.
 
A total of 614 student-athletes covering NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA with 376 coming from the Division I ranks.
 
A native of Toulouse, France, Berger recorded a season average score of 75.33 in four tournaments and 12 rounds this past season before the slate was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
His best three-round score was a 219 at the David Toms Intercollegiate in a tournament where he carded his collegiate low round of 69 in the final 18 holes. That 54-hole low was also a career collegiate best.
 
In the classroom, Berger compiled a 3.29 GPA in finance.
 
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status and individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40 percent of the team's competitive rounds.
