McKINNEY, Texas – McNeese's Jake Leatherwood led the Cowboys on day two of the 2021 Southland Conference Men's Golf Championships with a 2-over par 74 on Tuesday as the Cowboys climbed one spot from Monday into a tie for seventh place on the team leaderboard heading into Wednesday's final round.
 
The Cowboys shot nine strokes better than Monday with a team round of 307 to give them a total of 623 through two rounds. Sam Houston moved to the top after a 287 score to give it a 583 total. Lamar is right behind with a 591 while Abilene Christian is in third with a 601 score.
 
Leatherwood, who is tied for 28^th on the individual leaderboard, had a strong back-nine performance on the day. Starting the round on the 10^th hole, Leatherwood was three-over through nine. He started the back nine with a bird and an eagle in two of the first three holes to get him to even par. He followed with a double bogey on the next hole but got a stroke back with a birdie with two holes remaining.
 
Reid Giardina, the team leader after Monday's first round, shot a 76 on the day and will enter the final round in a tie for 14^th place with a score of 152. Theo Berger shot a 78 in the second round followed by Jack Hearn with a 79 and Trey Meadows an 80. Meadows is tied for 33^rd individually while Berger is tied for 39^th and Meadows 43^rd.
 
Lamar's Nikolai Schaffrath tops the individuals with a 3-under par 141 while Sam Houston's William Holcomb is in second at 2-under par with a 142.
 
McNeese will tee off the final round at 8:19 Wednesday morning with Hearn grouping with players from New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana. Berger will start at 8:28, Meadows at 8:37, Leatherwood at 8:46 and Giardina at 8:55.
