FRISCO, Texas – A total of 155 McNeese student-athletes from the winter and spring sports were named to the 2020 Southland Conference Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll, the league office released on Monday.
Of those 155, which ranked as the fifth-highest total of the 13 league schools, a total of 40 earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the semester.
The Cowgirls' track and field team lead the league in that sport with 32 honor roll recipients while the women's golf team and softball program tied for the league-high with nine and 25 players listed respectively.
Following women's track and field with 32 honor roll student-athletes to lead the McNeese department were men's track and field with 30, baseball 29, softball 25, women's basketball 11, women's golf nine, men's golf eight, men's basketball six and women's tennis with five.
For the league, a total of 1,813 student-athletes earned honor roll status was UIW led the way with 175 followed by UCA with 163, ACU and Southeastern Louisiana 157 each, McNeese 155, A&M-Corpus Christi 153, Stephen F. Austin 143, HBU 135, Northwestern State 123, Nicholls 119, Sam Houston State 114, Lamar 111, and UNO 108.
In order to be named to the Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll, student-athletes must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.00 and have been eligible to compete in their conference sport during the spring semester, regardless of whether or not the sport was affected by season cancellations due to COVID-19.
