Erika Diaz leads Dillard in scoring with 10.3 ppg. and JaQuanna Hunter is averaging 10.3 rpg.
The Cowgirls, who are under first year head coach
Lynn Kennedy are expected to bring an exciting brand of basketball that fans will love.
Â
"We have a very balanced, deep, and experienced team. We are young but we have players that have played at a high level," Kennedy said. "I like the attitude of our team, they are eager to learn, and they want to win."
Â
Four players from last year's team have returned including preseason all-Southland Conference first-team selection in junior
Divine Tanks. Also returning from a year ago are sophomores
Lizzy Ratcliff and
Kyla Hamilton along with junior
Le'Shenae Stubblefield.
Â
Also, the roster has a total of 10 players who will put on a Cowgirl jersey for the first time. Of those 10 players, six are transfers and four are true freshmen.
Â
The transfers include graduate
Lana Skripkina (Morgan State), junior
Desirae Hansen (Portland State), sophomore
Zuzanna Kulinska (Univ. of Colorado) and
Autumn Watts (Univ. of New Mexico), redshirt freshmen
Cristina Gil (Boise State) and
Clara Rosini (Eastern Kentucky). Watts will be sidelined for the 2021-22 season due to an injury.
Â
The true freshmen making their collegiate debut will be
Kaili Chamberlin (Medford, Or.),
Emerson Taylor (Perth, Australia),
Mireia Yespes (Barcelona, Spain), and
Taylor Wilkins (New Orleans) Â Â
Â
Hansen, who followed Kennedy to Lake Charles from Portland State, knows Kennedy better than any player on the team and is somewhat of a coach on the court which has helped tremendously during the transition.
Â
"Des is a unique player, especially coming out of high school, she wasn't heavily recruited but she has a lot of talent. After entering the transfer portal, it was a natural fit for her to come here and finish her career with us. It's always nice to have a player that's been in the system that knows exactly what we want."
Â
The Cowgirls have 11 home games and will open their regular season on Nov. 9 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The regular season home opener is scheduled for Nov. 13 against Southwestern Assemblies of God.
