XC teams to run at NCAA South Central Regional on Friday

WACO, Texas – The Southland Conference champion McNeese Cowboy cross country team will be joined by the Cowgirls on Friday morning when the squads compete in the 2021 NCAA South Central Region Cross Country Meet.
 
The meet will get underway at 10 a.m. with the running of the women's 6-kilometer race while the men's 10k will begin at 11 a.m. Each team is allowed seven runners plus an alternate.
 
The Cowboys, who are ranked seventh in the latest USTFCCCA South Central Region poll, will be led by Gideon Cheplak who placed third overall at the SLC championships to lead the Cowboys to the team title. Joining him in the lineup will be Joey Croft, Omer El-Fadi, Aaron Gilliam, Jacob Kipkogei, Henry Kiplagat and Elias Loriposia. James Hyland will serve as an alternate.
 
Making up the Cowgirl lineup will be Bonnie Andres, Danna Diaz, Ciara Gilroy, Aurelia Jepkorir, Pamela Kosgei, Alissa Lander and Sorcha Moloney with Irene Barreiro-Lopez as the alternate.
 
"We hope to continue our upward trend that both squads have displayed all season and hopefully surprise some teams ahead of us," said head coach Brendon Gilroy, who was named this year's SLC Men's XC Coach of the Year.
 
The Cowgirls are ranked 13th in the poll, having climbed back into the top 15 after a third place finish at the conference championships.
 
The race will be held at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco.
