LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball returns home Wednesday for a midweek contest against Houston before traveling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this weekend for a three game Southland Conference series. First pitch Wednesday is set for 6:30 p.m. at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond. Streaming ($) and live stats will be available.

McNeese (10-18) will look to get back in the win column after dropping a three game Southland Conference series at Sam Houston last weekend. The Cowgirls have lost their last five games which includes home losses against No. 10 Texas and Texas A&M last week.

"Nobody likes to drop a conference series," said head coach James Landreneau. "We are fortunate that it happened early in the conference season and we still have time to regroup and get ourselves together. It's a situation where we didn't play very well, and they did. They played excellent softball and they beat us in just about every phase of the game. We need to do a better job being better focused going into that kind of weekend."

Houston (9-13) has won two of its last three games including a 4-2 win against Oklahoma State and split games at Baylor last weekend winning the first game 3-1 before dropping the second game 2-1.

"We are going to face a red-hot Houston team that has won two of its last three games including a win over Baylor last weekend."

This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. McNeese picked up a 4-3 in Houston two weeks ago.

McNeese will enter the game leading the nation in double plays turned (26) and second in the nation in double plays per game (0.93).

Cori McCrary continues to lead the Cowgirls at the plate with a .329 batting average along with six homeruns, 28 doubles which ranks her seventh in the nation, and 15 RBI.
Jenna Edwards leads the pitching staff with a 2.47 ERA, 32 strikeouts, and four save which is tied for the top spot in the nation along with Southern Miss' Morgan Leinstock who also has four saves on the year. Saleen Flores leads the staff with four victories.

"Moving forward, we need to play the way we are capable of playing. On the offensive side, we need to see some production and I don't think it's one individual player. We need to relax and play within our ability and let success follow."
