LAKE CHARLES –  McNeese softball, coming off a 9-3 midweek win over Houston will return to Southland Conference action this weekend with a three-game series at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday and Saturday. All three games will be streamed free on the Islanders Digital Network and live stats will be provided. Links are located on mcneesesports.com.
The series will begin with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday and will conclude with a single game at noon Saturday.
McNeese (11-18, 2-4 SLC) snapped a five-game losing streak with its win over Houston that saw
Haylee Brinlee produce a career night with two homeruns, one double and six RBI. Brinlee is currently batting .208 on the season with a team high 18 RBI and is second on the team with four homeruns.
Cori McCrary continues to pace the Cowgirls with a .322 batting average, 28 hits, six homeruns, nine doubles, 17 runs scored, and is second on the team with 15 RBI.
The Cowgirls pitching staff is led by
Jenna Edwards' 2.36 ERA, 35 strikeouts, and four saves.Â
Whitney Tate and
Saleen Flores lead the staff with four wins apiece. Tate, who picked up the win over Houston is 4-7 on the year while Flores is 4-5 on the year. Â
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (14-11, 5-1 SLC) enters the series on a five-game winning streak with their wins from a three-game SLC series sweep over Lamar last Saturday and most recently a doubleheader wins over Tarleton State on Wednesday. Not only are the Islanders on a five-game winning streak but all five wins were shutouts. They have outscored their opponents 32-0 in the last five games.
