SB: Cowgirls Host Abilene Christian This Weekend In SLC Series

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball returns to the diamond and Southland Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Abilene Christian beginning with a single game Friday at 6:30 p.m. The series will conclude with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.

McNeese (19-21, 9-6 SLC) hasn't played in a week since it's scheduled home game Tuesday against No. 16 LSU was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Cowgirls will look to bounce back from a 2-1 Southland Conference series loss at Southeastern La. last weekend where the Cowgirls dropped Friday's doubleheader by the score of 3-2 in both contests. The Cowgirls ended the weekend on a positive note by taking the series finale by a 3-1 score.

Kaylee Lopez currently leads the Cowgirls with a .310 batting average with 26 hits, seven doubles and 11 RBI. Cori McCrary leads the team with 36 hits, seven home runs, 10 doubles, 26 runs scored, and is third on the team with a .298 batting average.

In the circle, Jenna Edwards (5-1) leads the staff with a 2.16 ERA and has 45 strike outs to her credit. Whitney Tate (6-7) leads the pitching staff with six victories, 83.1 innings pitched, has 36 strike outs with a 3.78 ERA. Ashley Vallejo (3-6) has a 4.18 ERA with a team high 51 strike outs, and Saleen Flores (5-7) has a 6.11 ERA with 28 strike outs.

ACU (7-27, 3-12 SLC) will look to snap an eight-game losing streak and are coming off a home SLC series loss against Sam Houston last weekend. The three-game series for ACU will begin a six-game road swing through Louisiana for the Wildcats who will travel to Nicholls next weekend for a three-game series.

Donelle Johnson leads the Wildcats with a .353 batting average while Val Rudd leads the team with 27 hits.

Samantha Bradley and Riley White have been the top two pitchers used this season. Bradley (3-13) has a 5.73 ERA with a team high 33 strike outs in 84. 1 innings. White (4-10) has a 6.19 ERA with 24 strike outs in 80.1 innings.
