LAKE CHARLES – McNeese left fielder Julian Gonzales hit the trifecta this week in the award's category after being named national hitter of the week by Collegiate Baseball as well as the Southland Conference and Louisiana Hitter of the Week awards.
The St. Louis Catholic product posted a remarkable weekend in helping the Cowboys sweep a four-game series from Nicholls, reaching base in 13 of his 15 plate appearances with five hits, five walks and three HBP in a series sweep of Nicholls.
He posted a slash line of .714/.867/2.000 with three home runs, four RBI and eight runs scored over the weekend and at one stretch, hit three homers in four at-bats.
Gonzales is the second Cowboy player this season to be recognized by Collegiate Baseball. Will Dion earned national pitcher of the week honors early in the season after he threw a three-hit shutout against Prairie View back on Feb. 26 in a game where he tied a school record by striking out 19 batters.
The Cowboys (26-26, 19-16 SLC) will out the regular season with a four-game series at Central Arkansas, beginning with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Thursday.
