LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowboy baseball team has been recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) by receiving the organizations Team Academic Excellence Award, being one of 94 Division I programs to earn the accolade.
McNeese has received the award all six years of its existence, the only school in Louisiana to achieve such a feat.
This past 2020-21 academic year, the Cowboy baseball program produced a 3.35 team GPA. A total of 33 players were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll by posting a 3.0 GPA or better while eight players recorded a perfect 4.0 mark.
In addition, four players –
Will Dion,
Clayton Rasbeary,
Julian Gonzales and Tré Obregon were named to the SLC Baseball All-Academic team following the season.
