McNeese has 95 name to SLC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll

 – McNeese landed 95 student-athletes on the 2021 Southland Conference Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll, the league announced in conjunction with the naming of the team on Wednesday.

The Southland Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in the semester of their respective sport featuring football, men's and women's cross country, women's soccer, and women's volleyball.

For McNeese, the 95 total ranks No. 3 among the eight Southland Conference schools and first within the Louisiana playing league universities. Twenty Cowboys and Cowgirls posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average – six soccer, four football, four men's cross country, three women's cross country and two volleyball.

In addition, a total of nine McNeese student-athletes were named to their respective sport SLC All-Academic teams including football's Isaiah Chambers who garnered the Student-Athlete of the Year Award in football for the second straight season.

Those earning All-Academic honors included: football – Isaiah Chambers, Kordell Williams, Cody Orgeron, Calvin Barkat; women's soccer – Havana Johnson; men's cross country – Gideon Cheplak, Henry Kiplagat; and women's cross country – Aurelia Jepkorir, Alissa Lander.

Breaking down each sport, Cowboy football listed 44 to the honor roll, 23 for Cowgirl soccer, 12 for Cowgirl volleyball, eight for Cowgirl cross country and seven for Cowboy cross country.

A total of 644 student-athletes from across 37 teams and five sports were named to the Fall 2021 Commissioner's Honor Roll. UIW had the most named to the team with 106 followed by HBU at 105. McNeese was third in the league with 95 honorees, Nicholls had 88, Southeastern Louisiana 84, Northwestern State 83, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 50 and New Orleans 33.

Out of all SLC athletes, 22 percent held a flawless 4.0 GPA throughout the fall term. Athletes from the McNeese men's and women's cross country teams and the soccer team earned 4.0 GPAs at a significantly higher percentage than the rest of the SLC.
