NEW ORLEANS – McNeese's Cowboys and Cowgirls cross country teams have been named to the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country All-Academic teams, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Thursday.
A total of 150 men's teams and 168 women's were named All-Academic. The Cowgirls posted a team GPA of 3.3 while the Cowboys compiled a 3.13 mark.
A total of 16 McNeese runners were recently awarded the Southland Conference Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll, eight from the Cowboys and nine off the Cowgirls' squad. Seven of those posted a perfect 4.0 GPA – Joey Croft, Markus Kopp, Pavel Kraus, Flippo Squassina, Bonnie Andres, Irene Barrerio-Lopez and Priscilla Ibarra.
This is the eighth straight season both the Cowgirls and Cowboys have been recognized for its academics by the USTFCCCA. The Cowgirls have received the award in 11 of the last 12 seasons while the Cowboys have been recognized in nine of the last 12 years.
