COLLEGE STATION, Texas – McNeese cross country competed in its final meet before the Oct. 28 Southland Conference Championships on Saturday at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational with the Cowboys placing 12
th out of 40 teams and the Cowgirls 28
th out of 41.
The Cowboys were paced by
Gilbert Kimutai who finished 37
th overall in the 8k race with a time of 24:39.1. His finish helped the Cowboys rank as the second-highest Southland Conference team in the field to finish.
McNeese recorded 376 points, trailing only Incarnate Word (353) among SLC finishes. Texas A&M won the team title with 71 points followed by Ohio State with 136, Tulane 142, Arkansas State 238 and Texas Tech 258 to round out the top five.
Following Kimutai for McNeese with a top 50 finish included
Evans Kemboi (48
th, 24:47.1). Other Cowboy runners included
Jacob Kipkogei (24:49.6),
Omer El-Fadl (25:25.7),
James Hyland (25:52.2),
Filippo Squassina (26:33.0),
Elias Loriposia (26:46.3), Abdullah Elkhair (27:39.4),
Desmond Kiplimo (28:29.5), and Obied Mohamed (30:33.6).
Conference teams following UIW and McNeese in the team rankings included New Orleand (13
th, 378), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (15
th, 419), Lamar (18
th, 438), Texas A&M-Commerce (27
th, 729), Houston Christian (28
th, 774), and Nicholls (37
th, 1057).
Ohio State won the women's team title with 38 points followed by Lipscomb with 87, Florida 108, Texas A&M 175 and SMU 210 to round out the top five.
The Cowgirls finished sixth among seven SLC teams entered, trailing New Orleans (9
th, 246), Lamar (19
th, 602), Incarnate Word (20
th, 616), Houston Christian (22
nd, 642), Nicholls (24
th, 649), and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (27
th, 693). Texas A&M-Commerce followed the Cowgirls with a 37
th place finish and 1084 points.
Sorcha Moloney was the top Cowgirl runner, placing 112
th (107 scoring) with a time of 22:36.4 in the 6k race. Following her were runners
Ciara Gilroy (23:21.2), Pamela Kosgei (23:35.0),
Grace Sullivan (23:46.6), Irene Barreiro-Lopez (24:00.4),
Bonnie Andres (24:20.9), and
Jasmine Perez (24:49.3).
