LAKE CHARLES â McNeese softball looks to add a third home win to its two-game victory streak on Tuesday March 1 at 2 p.m. when it takes on Louisiana Tech at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond.
First pitch was moved up an hour to 2 o'clock from its originally scheduled time of 3.
The Cowgirls (8-6) won their final two games at The Evangeline Bank and Trust Invitational II where they blanked Manhattan College 12-0 then downed Memphis 3-1 on Saturday following losses to Sam Houston and UNLV earlier in the slate. Â
"The team was mature enough to know what was going during the first two games was not working," said head coach James Landreneau after the final game of the tournament. "We had some leadership step up and the players made up their mind Saturday to produce some intensity."Â
Josie Willingham currently leads the Cowgirls with a .350 batting average, 14 hits, and six RBIs. Chloe Gomez trails right behind with a .303 batting average and five RBIs and leads the team with seven walks and two doubles. Â
With seven appearances in the circle, Ashley Vallejo (4-3) leads the pitching staff with a 3.45 ERA striking out 31 batters in 44.1 innings.Â
The Lady Techsters (9-6) are coming off a split tournament weekend at the Marti Gras Mambo where they defeated Lipscomb, Eastern Illinois, and University of St. Thomas while falling to Portland State and No. 2 Alabama. Â
Sierra Sacco currently leads the Lady Techsters with a .347 batting average and 13 runs scored. Audrey Picket (6-2) leads the pitching staff with an ERA of 1.22 and 40 strikeouts. Â
McNeese and Louisiana Tech have exchanged wins since 2007 with the Cowgirls leading the overall series 12-10 and producing the longest winning streak (four games, 2014-2017). The Cowgirls beat the Lady Techsters 7-1 last season in Lake Charles.Â
