Numerous tracksters record new personal bests at LSU

BATON ROUGE – McNeese Cowgirl jumper Dreunna Washington soared to a new personal record with a win in the long jump while Sakari Famous won the high jump with a McNeese best height as the Cowgirls and Cowboys competed at the LSU Bayou Bengal Indoor Meet on Friday.
 
Washington bettered her previous long jump PR by nearly a foot when she marked out a 19-8 to finish in first place while Famous cleared 5-8.5, an inch better than her previous McNeese best and one-inch shy of her all-time PR. Famous remains unbeaten on the season, winning the event in all three of her meet entries this season.
 
Five other Cowgirls posted new personal bests on the day – Jordan Carter in the 800-meters (2:24.75, 5th place); Priscilla Ibarra, 800-meters (2:29.86, 9th); Morgan Talley, 60m hurdles (8.89); Reagan West, 60m hurdles (9.07), and Ane Torres, shot put (42-0.75, 6th).
 
On the men's side, Richard Lee and Marcus Francis posted the highest finish for the Cowboys, Lee with a second place post in the 400-meters and Francis with a second place finish in the shot put.
 
The two also hit new personal highs in their event. Lee clocked a new PR in the 400-meters with a time of 50.61. He also ran the 60-meters, timing out at 6.95 in the qualifying round. Francis placed second in the shot put with a throw of 49-3, nearly three feet longer than his previous best.
 
Other Cowboys to post personal records include DaMarion Roane (6.99), Kaleb Blalock (7.05) and Christian Fulcher (7.20) in the 60-meters; Filippo Squassina in the 400m (52.55); Pavel Kraus in the 800m (2:05.42); Payton Foreman in the mile run (4:29.99); and Tyler Challis in the weight throw (46-10).
 
McNeese will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Samford Invitational for the final tune-up before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 27-28.
