LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball, winners of its last four games, will play two midweek games this week before returning to Southland Conference play on the weekend.  

The Cowgirls will begin their week by hosting UL-Monroe Tuesday, March 29 in a 6 p.m. contest followed by a 6 p.m. road game at #22 LSU Wednesday, March 30. 

McNeese (16-14, 3-0 SLC) is coming off a Southland Conference series sweep over Texas A&M Corpus-Christi last weekend. 

Jil Poullard continues to lead the Cowgirls at the plate with a .364 batting average, a .636 slugging percentage, 16 walks, five doubles, three home runs, and 19 RBI. Alayis Seneca is tied with Poullard with 24 hits. Poullard and Kendall Talley are tied with 19 runs scored and two triples. Reese Reyna has a team high 11 stolen bases. Crislyne Moreno is second on the team with a .333 batting average, is second on the team with .479 slugging percent, and is third with 13 RBI. 

Shaelyn Sanders (5-0) leads the Cowgirls' pitching staff with a 1.60 ERA along with 14 strikeouts in 43.2 innings. With a 3.01 ERA and 79.0 innings of action in the circle, Ashley Vallejo (7-6) leads the Cowgirls with 61 strikeouts. 

ULM (18-10) dropped two out of the three Sun Belt Conference games in its third conference series at home against Appalachian State last weekend. The Warhawks picked up a 2-1 the final game victory on Sunday. 

The Warhawks are led by Lourdes Bacon with a .390 batting average, 20 runs scored, 30 hits, 19 RBI, drew 16 walks, five doubles, and three homeruns. Kinsey Kackley (5-2) leads the pitching staff with a 1.75 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 52.0 innings of work.  

LSU (22-11) split the first two games of the conference series against #8 Arkansas with the final game scheduled for Monday, March 28. 

Daniel Coffey leads the Tigers with a .407 batting average and 44 hits. Georgia Clark has the highest slugging percentage at .733, 44 RBIs, 11 home runs, and 19 walks.  

Shelbi Sunseri (5-3) leads the Tigers staff with a 1.90 ERA along with 42 strikeouts in 66.1 innings. With a 2.09 ERA and 87.0 innings of action in the circle, Ali Kilponen (11-4) leads the Tigers with 81 strikeouts. 

The Tigers hold a 23-3 overall record and have won the last 10 meetings against the Cowgirls. The last McNeese win over LSU was a 2-1 victory in Baton Rouge in 2014. 

Kendall Talley Receives Hitter of the Week 

Kendall Talley picked up her first Southland Conference Hitter of the Week honors the league announced Tuesday afternoon. Talley started her week going a perfect two-for-two at the plate, recording a pair of runs and one stolen base against Southern Miss. She continued her momentum at the plate against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi logging four hits, two RBIs, a stolen base and a run in the sweep of the Islanders on opening weekend of league play. The junior recorded a .600 average at the plate and .636 on base percentage after four games for the Cowgirls.
