Cowboys Visit No. 6 LSU for Midweek Matchup

LAKE CHARLES - The McNeese Cowboy baseball team (8-4) will play their second-midweek road contest in as many weeks when they travel to nationally-ranked LSU on Tuesday night.

Series History:
McNeese and LSU are meeting for the 44th time overall, the Tigers lead the all-time series 31-12. McNeese has taken three of the last five meetings with two of those wins in Baton Rouge. 

Last Time Out:
The Cowboys are coming off of a 2-2 week after winning the midweek game at Southern and taking the series finale vs. #25 Louisiana Tech. OF Julian Gonzales was the offensive catalyst as he hit a pair of home runs and drove in three runs at Southern. Tre' Obregon III went 7-15 (.467) last week with a home run. Peyton Johnson drove in five runs last week and homered twice in the Tech series, he hit .385 for the week. Braden Duhon added four ribbies last week as well. Cameron Foster recorded three-inning saves in both of McNeese's wins, he struck out 14 batters in six innings.

About McNeese:
Offensively, Tre' Obregon III (.395), Brad Burckel (.341), and Payton Harden (.333) are each hitting over .330 to pace the Cowboy offense. Obregon leads the club with 11 runs driven in and is tied with Kade Morris, Peyton Johnson, and Julian Gonzales for a team-high two home runs. Four Pokes have double-digit RBIs (Obregon - 11, Gonzales - 10, Burckel - 10, Harden - 10). The Cowboys have added 27 stolen bases in 28 attempts. 

On the mound, the Cowboys have fanned 130 batters through 100 innings even. Cameron Foster who hadn't allowed a hit or a run through his first 8.2 innings this season is third in the nation with four saves. The weekend rotation has featured Ty Abraham, Grant Rogers, and Chance Stone. Abraham is 1-1 with a 1.29 ERA plus 17 strikeouts in 14.0 innings. Rogers is 2-1 with 23 Ks in 16.0 innings pitched. Chance Stone is 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA with 12 Ks. Along with Foster, Brian Shadrick, Isaac Duplechain, Christian Vega, and Davis Burgin have made the most appearances out of the 'pen. 

About LSU:
The Tigers are ranked nationally in four polls (Baseball America - 16, D1 Baseball - 12, Perfect Game - 10, Collegiate Baseball - 6). The Tigers are led by head coach Jay Johnson who is in his 1st season at the helm in Baton Rouge and owns a 9-3 mark so far. LSU is hitting .319 as a team Dylan Crews (.404) and Cade Doughty (.388) are their leading hitters. Jacob Berry leads them with five homers. On the mound, the LSU pitching staff has a 3.23 ERA with 119 strikeouts over 106 innings. They are coming off a 2-2 week with wins over New Orleans and Oklahoma. They participated in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic in Houston.
