Cowgirls Travel To LSU And UL-Monroe For Midweek Games

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball will open its week with two midweek road games before returning home to host Incarnate Word in its home finale this weekend. 

McNeese (29-17) will begin its week at #21 LSU Tuesday, April 26 before traveling to UL-Monroe on Wednesday, April 27. 

The Cowgirls and Tigers met in Lake Charles exactly one week ago with LSU taking the game by a 7-1 score. LSU leads the series 36-3 and have won the last 11 meetings against the Cowgirls including last week's win. The last McNeese win over LSU was a 2-1 victory in Baton Rouge in 2014. 

Jil Poullard continues to lead the Cowgirls at the plate with a .387 batting average, a .721 slugging percent, 26 walks, 11 doubles, four triples, six home runs, and 34 RBI. Kendall Talley and Poullard are tied with a team-high of 43 hits apiece. Talley leads the team with 37 runs scored and is second on the team with a .347 batting average, a .524 slugging percentage, and nine doubles. Toni Perrin has stolen a team-high of 16 bases.  

Shaelyn Sanders (6-2) leads the Cowgirls' pitching staff with a 2.12 ERA along with two saves in 69.1 innings. 

Ashley Vallejo (11-7) leads the Cowgirls with 97 strikeouts, four shutouts, 120.1 innings pitched and is second on the team with a 2.50 ERA. Vallejo is coming off a career high of nine strikeouts against Lamar . 

Whitney Tate (10-7) is second on the team with 41 strikeouts in 99.1 innings and has a 3.31 ERA. 

Danieca Coffey leads the Tigers with a .389 batting average and is tied with Ciara Briggs for a team high 58 hits. Georgia Clark leads with 50 RBI and 30 walks. Taylor Pleasants has the highest slugging percentage at .659 and leads the team with 13 doubles.   

In the circle, Ali Kilponen (16-4) leads the Tigers with a 2.25 ERA, 120 strikeouts in 127.2 innings. 

LSU (30-17) is coming off an SEC series (2-1) win at Georgia.  

The Cowgirls have won the last six meetings against the Warhawks including a 7-5 win in Lake Charles on March 29.  

UL-Monroe (23-20) is currently on a four-game losing streak including a three-game Sunbelt series loss against South Alabama over the weekend.  

The Warhawks are led by Kennedy Johnson's 363 batting average, .558 slugging percentage, 26 RBI, 13 doubles, and three homeruns.  

ULM has used five pitchers this season with three throwing 50 or more innings. Kinsey Kackley (8-7) leading the pitching staff in victories, strikeouts (75) and innings pitched (83.1). Kassidy Giddens (4-0) has the lowest ERA at 1.97 in only 32.0 innings.
