LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball will host its final home games of the season in a Southland Conference series against Incarnate Word beginning with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday, April 29. The series will conclude with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday. Seniors Adrianna Ramirez, Padyn Williams, Tiffany Steczo, Gracie Devall, and Toni Perrin will be honored following Saturday's doubleheader in its Senior day presentation brought to you by Coca-Cola. All three games will broadcast on ESPN+.Â
McNeese (30-18, 10-2 SLC) heads into the series as the conference co-leaders along with Southeastern. UIW (13-40, 3-9 SLC) enters the weekend in fifth place. Â
McNeese leads the all-time series 13-2. The last time the two teams met was during the 2021 season with the Cowgirls taking the SLC series 2-1. Â
The Cowgirls are coming off their 30th win of the season with a 3-0 victory at UL-Monroe Tuesday night. During the four hit shutout gem, Ashley Vallejo earned her 100th strikeout of the season. Â
Jil Poullard leads the team with a .376 batting average and has a .774 conference game slugging percentage. Poullard has an overall .718 slugging percentage with 27 walks, 11 doubles, four triples, six home runs, and 35 RBI. Kendall Talley, Alayis Seneca, and Poullard are tied with a team-high of 44 hits apiece.Â
Talley leads the team in conference games with a .441 batting average. She leads the team with 44 hits, 37 runs and is second on the team with a .336 batting average, a .504 slugging percentage, and nine doubles on the season. Talley and Toni Perrin are tied with a team high of 16 stolen bases on the season. Â
Vallejo (12-7) leads the Cowgirls with a 2.37 ERA, 101 strikeouts, five shutouts, and 127.0 innings pitched. In conference play, Vallejo enters the weekend undefeated in league play at 5-0 with a 0.51 ERA.Â
Whitney Tate (10-8) is second on the team with 41 strikeouts in 100.2 innings and has a 3.62 ERA.Â
UIW has lost five out of its last six games including dropping a three game SLC series to Northwestern State last weekend. Â
Ryleigh Mata leads the Cardinals at the plate with a .360 batting average, 26 runs scored, and 50 hits. Â
With a 4.10 ERA, Ashley Trapp (4-7) has seen the most action with 68.1 innings pitched and leads the pitching staff with 78 strikeouts. Â
