LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis team knew it would be an uphill battle here Sunday against league leading Northwestern State but the Cowgirls didn't make it easy for the Demons, who picked up a 6-1 Southland Conference win to clinch at least a share of the regular season title and remained undefeated at 5-0 in league play.
"It was a very long match and we held them on court for a long time on courts 1, 4, 5 and 6," said head coach
Giorgia Pozzan. "Credit to Northwestern State, they definitely fought and earned the win but we didn't make it easy for them."
McNeese (3-14, 1-4 SLC) coming off its 6-1 win over Southeastern on Friday, carried that momentum into today's match and made the Lady Demons earn every point they won.
The Lady Demons won the double point by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles for a 1-0 lead. NW State went on to pick up five singles victories to claim the match.
Ariane Monlleo Sanchis was the only Cowgirl victorious by picking up a three set 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over Patrycja Polanska at the No. 6 singles.
McNeese will close out the regular season this Saturday, April 9 in an 11 a.m. match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
